Chemical manufacturing plants can use several filtration stages to help protect equipment, optimize process efficiency, and maintain product quality. Feedstock, additives, and solvents are routinely filtered at the point of process entry to help protect downstream equipment. Mid-process filtration is typically used to optimize efficiency of the reactor, heat exchanger, or other process equipment. Final product or loadout filtration is critical to maintaining the product quality specifications that the plant must meet for its customers. This Application Brief focuses on the loadout filtration stage in chemical manufacturing.

The filtration that keeps it flowing.

Waterflooding, or Water Injection, is an effective means of recovering oil from mature production formations. Often used after the original formation pressures and subsequent oil recovery rates have declined, waterflooding can provide for up to 30-40% additional oil production. The quality of injection water is critical in maintaining the effectiveness of waterflood operations in oil recovery, and requires a filtration system capable of removing particles that can plug the well formation. Failure to properly filter out these particles can reduce oil production rates and increase the frequency of well workovers.
