About the product
3M™ Water Filtration Products High Flow Series (-S) model filter system provide Recipe Quality Water™ for commercial ice machines and commercial steam tables by reducing the effects of sediment*, chlorine taste and odor and scale* while helping you protect your equipment.
This High Flow Series (-S) line of filter cartridges are sanitary by design, requiring no physical contact with the filter media during cartridge change-out. Our Sanitary Quick Change (SQC) feature allows for fast and easy cartridge change-outs without the need for a filter wrench. Other smart design details include our integral mounting bracket with keyhole cut out design, which helps add stability and provides less stress on plumbing lines when mounted to a wall or adjacent piece of equipment.
Some High Flow Series (-S) replacement cartridge filters are designed to be effective at reducing common water-borne bacteria** and cyst¹ for models HF90-S, HF90-S-SR, HF90-S-SR5, HF60-S, HF60-CLS, HF40-S, helping you feel more confident in the quality of the products you serve. Hard scale can accumulate and clog distribution nozzles and evaporator plates in commercial ice machines and coat heating tubes or elements in steam tables; increasing maintenance and downtime. The added benefit of our built-in scale inhibition helps reduce calcium and magnesium from precipitating on metal components as hard scale*.
In many filtration applications, carbon is often the preferred media of choice to absorb impurities. Carbon is highly effective due to the vast surface area contained within a small footprint. As effective as carbon is, activated carbon is even more effective. Activated carbon is made of small clusters of carbon atoms, and is produced by heating the carbon source (coal, lignite, wood, nutshells or peat) in the absence of air. Adsorption is the adhesion of atoms, ions, or molecules from a gas, liquid, or dissolved solid to a surface. This process differs from absorption, where the fluid permeates or is dissolved and held within the filter media. When adsorption is in play, the water, or other fluid to be filtered, passes through the carbon capturing contaminants and effectively reducing them.
Filters that employ activated carbon are rated by the size of the particles they can reduce, as measured in micron. This nominal micron rating can range from 50 micron down to as small as 0.5, more than adequate to filter sediment.
Integrated Membrane Pre-Activated Carbon Technology (“I.M.P.A.C.T.”), used in a variety of 3M™ Water Filtration Products High Flow Series products, combines a pharmaceutical-grade microporous membrane and a pre-activated carbon block in a single cartridge to dramatically reduce pressure drop and practically eliminate the need for pre-filtration. The integrated membrane provides superior sediment holding capabilities while reducing Cryptosporidium and Giardia cysts¹and water-borne bacteria**. Pre-activation of the carbon media is not required.
