Karen Pien, MD is a healthcare leader and AHIMA-certified ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer with deep expertise in medical coding, data quality and digital transformation. She is a member of IFHIMA and actively contributes to global health data standards through her involvement in the WHO Family of International Classifications (WHO-FIC).

Currently pursuing her Executive MBA at Vlerick Business School, Dr. Pien combines strategic insight with technical precision to advance the role of medical coders as critical partners in delivering high-integrity, AI-enabled healthcare. She is a strong advocate for embedding human values, ethical oversight and purpose-driven design into the digital evolution of health systems.
