Scaling is commonly seen as mineral build-up in places with hard water, which has high levels of dissolved calcium and magnesium salts. Scaling can damage heating elements and reduce their efficiency or block valves and pipelines, causing breakdowns, the need for costly repairs and reduced flow rates. Scale can also affect water taste. Hard water can even make beverages appear cloudy.

Coffee and tea that people crave
Water makes up 98% of the brews you serve your customers, and it has a powerful effect on your product and your equipment. Keep making coffee customers come back for with solutions from Solventum.
Espresso that’s impressive
Espresso beverages are an art that requires mastery of the ingredients and process, as well as elaborate equipment susceptible to scale. We can help you continue to serve espresso that excites and delights.
Ice for a clear, refreshing chill
Everything in your water ends up in your ice — and in your ice machine, where dissolved minerals can damage its efficiency and longevity. With our solutions, your ice starts as cleaner, clearer water.
Delightful dispensed drinks
Cold beverage machines dispense familiar brands, so ensure the taste of your water won’t affect the flavors your customers’ want. Our solutions reduce the taste and odor of chlorine and chloramine, as well as their corrosive effects.
Consistent combi-oven cooking
Combi-ovens and steamers boil water for cooking steam, which can leave deposits and cause damage, while chlorine can promote corrosion. Use our solutions for cleaner water and to keep your equipment cooking.
Multiple needs, one solution
Your business may have multiple kinds of equipment using water in different ways for your foods and beverages, each with different needs. We can help you keep things simple with a single system that serves them all.

*Filters featuring the Integrated Membrane Pre-Activated Carbon Technology ("I.M.P.A.C.T.") media can clearly be identified by the icon on the product label.
†Based on the use of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts.
‡As demonstrated with 99.99% reduction of surrogate organism E. coli (ATCC 11229) and P. fluorescens (ATCC 49642) in manufacturer’s lab test.
Protect equipment and taste from municipal treatment chemicals with 3M™ High Flow CLX Series
Most municipalities prevent the spread of water-borne diseases by treating their drinking water systems with chlorine or chloramines, which not only smell and taste bad, they promote corrosion in your equipment. Your municipality may also switch between them, and your current filter may not cover both.
Whatever your town uses, our 3M high flow CLX series filters deliver the industry’s highest chloramine and chlorine reduction in a single, compact solution. Select models also feature Integrated Membrane and Pre-Activated Carbon Technology ("I.M.P.A.C.T.") to reduce microbial cyst and bacteria.

It’s right in the name. Delivers excellent chlorine and chloramine reduction in high-volume foodservice applications.
Compact but powerful
Has a small footprint but outperforms much larger systems.
Certified performance
Features catalytic carbon block technology and meets NSF/ANSI 42 for chlorine and select models NSF/ANSI 53 for cysts.
WQA sustainability
Certified as a sustainable water quality product.
Specialty ice machine filtration with 3M™ High Flow Series Carbonless Filters
Your ice machine may be under threat from excess moisture and other factors that can encourage the growth of a biofilm and the spread of associated bacteria — as well as particles and scale.
You can protect both your ice and your machine with filters that maintain municipal chlorine or chloramine levels, while removing particles and inhibiting scale. Our 3M high flow series carbonless filters have a pharmaceutical grade membrane that reduces bacteria and microbial cysts. Its nominal 0.2 µm particle filter pore size is 25x smaller than a standard 5 µm filter. It also has a built-in scale inhibitor.

FAQs
Chlorine has long been used in water supplies to control infectious organisms such as bacteria, viruses, protozoa and cysts. Although low levels of chlorine are usually used, it has a characteristic and noticeable taste and odor that inevitably end up in the beverages you serve.
Some water companies use chloramine to treat water rather than chlorine. Chloramine may provide better disinfection from source to tap, but it can also affect the taste of food and beverages. Importantly, chloramines can cause corrosion of metal, plastic or rubber machine parts, resulting in malfunctions and costly repairs. Chloramine is more difficult to reduce through filtration than chlorine, and many filters are ineffective in reducing concentrations to levels low enough to protect your flavors and equipment.
There are several ways to treat scale, but some – such as acid cleaners – can also damage sensitive metal machine components. It is best to inhibit scale from building up in the first place, particularly in ice and brewed coffee applications. Our foodservice water filtration products with the abbreviation “S” indicate the product reduces scale, as do our 3M™ ScaleGard™ Pro Series and 3M™ ScaleGard™ Blend Series products for espresso applications, and 3M™ ScaleGard™ Reverse Osmosis products for steam, combi and espresso applications.
Sediment or insoluble particles in the water can affect the appearance of your beverage or ice and can impede the operation of your machinery. Particles can range from those that are clearly visible, such as clay, sand or rust, to organisms, such as bacteria or cysts, that are too small to be visible to the human eye. Visible particles can be unsightly in food and beverages, while microorganisms can affect taste and cause illness.
Sediment in your ice machine’s water can trap air, cause cloudy ice and clog tubes and solenoid valves. Our foodservice water filtration products reduce sediment at different micron levels, with select products also reducing bacteria and cysts.
