The patient presented for an exam after 6 years with no chief complaint other than making sure he was in good oral health. Clinical examination revealed a cavitated carious lesion in relation to a failing occluso-lingual composite in tooth 26. The treatment plan consisted of replacing the failing composite restoration using the 3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Plus Adhesive and 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Ultra Universal Restorative, Shade A1B. After total isolation with rubber dam, the caries were removed and the procedures related to the adhesive were completed. The composite material was placed and polished using the 3M™ Sof-Lex™ Polishing System. Refer to Instructions for Use (IFU) for complete product information. Results may vary.
Initial situation shows cavitated carious lesion in the existing OL composite on tooth 26. After anesthesia, rubber dam was placed for ideal isolation.
Caries were fully excavated and the rest of the failing composite removed.
37% phosphoric acid etch gel was applied using the selective etch technique. This was left on for 15 seconds, then rinsed away with water.
After rinsing and drying, an evident etch pattern was showing on the enamel only.
3M™ Scotchbond™ Universal Plus Adhesive was applied with agitation for 20 seconds and air-dried for at least 5 seconds until the adhesive no longer moved. Active application is the key for best results.
The universal adhesive was then light cured for 10 seconds.
