About the Case
Anterior composite restorations present many esthetic challenges to the clinician, and the difficulties increase with the size of the restoration. However, the quality of composite materials has advanced steadily in recent years, to the point that it is now more possible than ever to achieve excellent esthetics, high strength and longevity with a composite resin restoration. The patient, a 22-year old male, had visited the clinic after having broken teeth Nos. 1.1 and 2.1 in a fall the previous night. The patient’s college graduation was in 3 days, and he was seeking a way to repair the teeth quickly and esthetically.
Class IV fractures of the maxillary central incisors.
Prepared teeth with infinite bevels.
Placed 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Ultra Universal Restorative, Shade A1E, in lingual matrix.
Used football burnisher to place composite, then light cured.
Created halo with white tint at the incisal edge of the lingual shell.
Used 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Ultra Universal Restorative, Shade A2B, as dentin replacement.
Shaped final enamel layer with an instrument then smoothed with brushes.
Used football burnisher again to place composite, then light cured.
Formed distal contact, then light cured.
Created mesial contact, surface contours, and embrasure.
Final proximal surface.
Final contour before finishing and polishing.
Completed restorations.
