Solventum™ V.A.C.® Peel and Place Dressing Kit FAQs

Yes. This dressing includes all the same indicated wound types as traditional V.A.C.® Granufoam dressings. 

The foam part of the dressing should extend beyond all wound edges, completely covering the wound bed. If wounds are deeper than 6 cm, use an alternate V.A.C.® Granufoam Dressing.

  • The Small dressing should have a max depth of 2 cm.
  • The Medium dressing should have a max depth of 4 cm.
  • The Large dressing should have a max depth of 6 cm.

The dressings can be used with undermining up to 2 cm. Do not use if undermining is greater than 2 cm. 

Do not use on wounds with tunneling. Please use a different V.A.C.® Granufoam™ Dressing for wounds with tunneling. 

No. Do not use any wound fillers with the V.A.C.® Peel and Place Dressing. If wound fillers are required, select a different V.A.C.® dressing to use.

The V.A.C. Peel and Place Dressings should only be used with the following Solventum NPWT Units:

  • 3M™ V.A.C.® Ulta Therapy Unit (3M™ V.A.C.® Therapy only)
  • 3M™ ActiV.A.C.™ Therapy Unit
  • 3M™ Prevena™ Plus 125 Therapy Unit - 14 days

Do not use with any other devices or wall suction. 

The dressings can be left in place for up to 7 days with the frequency adjusted by the clinician as appropriate. The dressing change intervals should be based on a continuing evaluation of patient and wound condition rather than a fixed schedule. As with all NPWT dressings, infected wounds must be monitored often and very closely, and dressings may need to be changed more often. 

Yes, the perforated Polyurethane Non-Adherent Layer protects the peri-wound skin from direct contact with foam, and it is perforated which will provide some negative pressure to the peri-wound area and will remove any moisture.

If a leak occurs during initial placement, the dressing can be lifted, repositioned, and reapplied. Making sure to smooth any wrinkles or creases. If a leak occurs during therapy, reinforce with additional drape 3M™ V.A.C.® Dermatac™ Drape or 3M™ V.A.C.® Drape. 

Do not cut the foam section of the dressing. Leave adequate drape border for sealing. The dressing is intended to be used without sizing the drape border for easy application, however, trimming may be appropriate for some applications, at the discretion of the clinician. Leave adequate drape border for sealing. For curved anatomy, slits may be cut in the drape portion of the dressing to help reduce overlap, drape folds or to remove wrinkles. 

The pressure setting should be at -75 to -150 mmHg on Continuous mode only. These settings help keep the dressing in contact with the wound bed throughout therapy.

Yes, as with other V.A.C.® Dressings placed over exposed blood vessels, organs, or anastomotic sites, a thick layer of natural tissue should provide the most effective protection. If not available or it is not surgically possible, multiple layers of meshed non-adherent material or bio-engineered tissue may be considered as an alternative. 

No, the incorporated non-adherent layer prevents direct contact with foam. If there is concern about the underlying structures, consider an initial dressing change prior to 7 days to assess wound progress.

Upon dressing removal, some proteinaceous material may be observed. Cleanse the wound according to your facility protocol or treatment orders.

During the initial pre-clinical (porcine) testing showed this material is about 60% albumin which is the most common protein in the body. In the pre-clinical study, the proteinaceous material was not removed. This material was observed to reduce over time with subsequent dressing changes and did not appear to negatively impact wound healing.

No. Due to the differences in wear times, you cannot combine the V.A.C.® Peel and Place Dressing with other NPWT dressings. Options for offloading the Solventum™ SensaT.R.A.C.™ Pad include the following:

  1. Use a larger V.A.C.® Peel and Place Dressing. Note: the pre-cut SensaT.R.A.C.™ Pad hole in the Large V.A.C.® Peel and Place Dressing is off-centre and may be useful for offloading scenarios.
  2. Place padding under the SensaT.R.A.C.™ Tubing to minimise pressure points.
  3. If neither of the options above is clinically viable, then use an alternate V.A.C.® Dressing or change the V.A.C.® Peel and Place Dressing and bridge component no less than 3 times per week.
