About the Case

A female patient, age 38, had aesthetic complaints of the black triangles between her maxillary central incisors. Restoring black triangles with composite is typically a challenge since it is difficult to achieve the correct emergence profile and often leads to excess composite creating steps near the gingival margin. This can lead to issues such as biofilm accumulation and gingival inflammation. The Bioclear method allows predictable closure of black triangles with an excellent interproximal contour using the Bioclear BT Matrices. Injection molding with 3M™ Filtek™ Restoratives allowed a restoration that mimics the aesthetics of the natural tooth.
Preoperative situation showing a black triangle between the maxillary central incisors.
Bioclear© BT Gauge was used to select the correct matrix size.
Total etching was performed.
3M™ Single Bond Universal Adhesive was applied, air-dried, and left uncured.
Yellow Bioclear© BT Matrices were placed and 3M™ Filtek™ Supreme Flowable Restorative (shade A2) was injected.
Without light curing the flowable, warmed 3M™ Filtek™ Universal Restorative was injected.
Adhesive, flowable composite, and universal composite were cured using the 3M™ Elipar™ Deep Cure-S LED Curing Light.
Finishing and polishing was completed using the 3M™ Sof-Lex™ XT Contouring and Polishing Discs.
Final results.
